Personality
Ezra is quick on his feet, not in the sense that he’s ready for surprises coming his way but rather that he’s fast to act on his own accord. He’s great at coming up with plans quickly, but not always the best at executing them - he tends to rush into things without fully thinking the situation over, especially in situations where swift thinking is crucial. When it comes to others, though, he’s always one of the first to remind them to take things slowly and think it over before making any decisions. It isn’t exactly that he’s hypocritical; he himself is just a fast thinker and can make spur-of-the-moment choices more easily than others may be able to. …Not that those choices are always the best ones. On the flip side, in situations where he has lots of time to mull over a decision, he often flip-flops between different sides, leading to a growing anxiety and inability to actually make a decision when it comes down to it.
Determined to do the right thing at any cost, Ezra always sees things through to the end, and is absolutely not a quitter. If he sees someone in trouble, he’ll drop everything he’s doing to help them, even being willing to sacrifice himself for them if the need arises. He vastly prefers to do what he thinks is right rather than what’s logical - he’s very emotionally driven and listens to his heart more than his head. At times, he can be overly ambitious, and once he’s worked up from something, it takes a while for him to calm down and return to “normal” again. At times, he can seem to overreact to situations going badly, often reaching a breaking point and letting out an absurd amount of frustration and anxiety - but those feelings do not entirely stem from that one instance. He usually bottles up all his negative feelings, not sure of a good way to let them out, and when something sends him over the edge, they all come rushing out at once.
Ezra also tends to not worry about the end results of a decision or situation until it’s actually happening. In the moment, during whatever he’s doing or whatever he’s waiting for, everything is fine, but as soon as something goes wrong or an outcome turns out badly, he loses all of his composure, hit by an onslaught of worries and regrets about anything he could have done differently. On a related note, he can be ridiculously overprotective of his friends, to the point where he’ll outright tell them to stand down from something he deems to be dangerous. It’s not him thinking he’s better than them, he just doesn’t want anyone to get needlessly hurt. He does his best to keep himself out of trouble, too, but it’s not easy for him to sit by when he sees a wrong that needs to be righted. He’s never been great at turning a blind eye to those in need, and though it often leaves him in need, he takes it in stride, feeling a sense of relief about doing the right thing.
About
As a kid, Ezra was often labeled a “problem child”, a title that was only exacerbated whenever he and Alex were together. He was somewhat rebellious, but didn’t seem to fit in with many of the kids at school, and often worried about things that were either out of his control or that weren’t likely to affect him. That all changed when his little sister Anna was around 5 years old, when something happened that made her so depressed she was bedridden for months. He grew fiercely protective of her, to the point where it tends to annoy her nowadays. It’s not that he thinks she can’t take care of herself, but he’s older than her and knows more, and he’s going to do everything in his power to make sure nothing ever happens to her again.
It probably doesn’t help things that their parents should really get a divorce. They don’t fight loudly, and Ezra has learned to tune most of it out anyways, but they argue over just about everything, especially Anna. Both of them have very different ideas about what the two of them should grow up to be like, but neither of them care much about what Ezra and Anna themselves want. Now that he’s older, Ezra tries not to pay too much attention to them, though of course he’s quick to defend Anna from them when need be.
